MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Arriving at the Lyman Orchards Golf Course for the Wesleyan Invitational after back-to-back second place team finishes to start off the fall, the No. 15 Amherst College women's golf team turned in a record-breaking performance with a two-day team total of 302-308-610 to secure their first team win of the season.
The Mammoths outpaced rival Williams College by 14 shots to place first overall in the field of seven teams and broke the previous team single round tournament scoring record with their first day card of 302 (+14) card and tied the team two-day record at 610 (+34).
Gihoe Seo '25 – who won gold at the Mammoth's opening tournament at Hamilton – triumphed in a one-hole playoff after rounds of 75-75-150 (+6) to claim her second individual title of the season. Seo made a routine par on the first playoff hole to defeat Tianyi Zhuang of Williams College, who tied Seo after two rounds at 150 (77-73).
Jessica Huang '25 followed up her individual victory at Middlebury last weekend with two more solid rounds to help the Mammoths reign victorious, with the first-year firing rounds of 75 (+3) and 77 (+5) to place third with a mark of 152 (+8).
Jenny Hua '24 shot a personal season-low round of 75 (+3) on day two to help the Mammoths secure a victory after recording a 79 (+7) on day one for a two-day total of 154 (+10). Her seven birdies on the weekend led the entire field.
Priya Bakshi '24 and
Janelle Jin '23 had identical cards with rounds of 76-81-157 (+13) and both played critical roles in the Mammoths' record-breaking day one performance as they closed out the tournament with top-10 finishes.
Lily Worden '22E and
Ivy Haight '25 competed individually for the Mammoths, with Worden shooting a 88-87-175 (+31) and Haight carding a collegiate low 78 (+6) on day two to complete a two-day total of 165 (+21).
The Amherst women's golf team returns to action next weekend, October 2-3, when they compete at the Williams Fall Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
