WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Capturing five event wins, the Amherst College men's track and field team continued to make positive strides towards the postseason on Saturday as they competed at a tri-meet with Williams and Wesleyan at the Weston Athletic Complex.
With junior
Henry Buren's time in the 100m dash at the tri-meet landing inside the top-50 nationally, Amherst now has four Mammoths owning Division III best marks this season despite only competing in three meets in 2021, including:
Ryan Prenosil '21 (800m),
Ellis Phillips-Gallucci '23 (400m Hurdles), and
Chris Gong '23 (long jump).
TRACK EVENTS
- Stopping the clock in 10.82 seconds and 22.06 seconds in the 100m and 200m dash, respectively, Buren took the top spot in both events, while Gong sprinted to a new personal best time of 11.33 seconds in the 100m.
- Alton Machen '24 (50.91) , Koyla Markov-Riss '24 (51.21), and Benjamin Bell '24 (53.99) all made their 400m event debut for the Mammoths, while senior Kyland Smith clocked a PR time of 51.44 seconds to place seventh in the tightly contested race.
- Improving on his 1500m time by over seven seconds from his first to his third collegiate meet, first-year Ian Dopp crossed the finish line in 4:06.17 to earn seventh in the 20-competitor event, while Robert Innes-Gold '22 posted a PR mark of 4:15.34.
- Junior Spencer Davis edged out the second place finisher by nearly four seconds in the 5000m finals to secure gold with a time of 15:41.41.
- Notching a 55.57 seconds mark in the 400m hurdles, Phillips-Gallucci placed first overall.
- Posting the Mammoths' top time in the 4x400m relay this season, Dopp, Markov-Riss, Smith, and Ben Wadsworth '22 teamed up to register a 3:27.27 mark in the event.
FIELD EVENTS
- Amherst clinched second and fourth place finishes in the high jump, with Troy Colleran '22 logging a 1.93m mark and Gabriel Dos Santos '24 reaching a height of 1.78m. Colleran also captured fourth overall in the discus with a toss of 30.98m.
- In the long jump, Gong earned a second place finish with a distance of 6.69m. First-year Adrian Friedman made his collegiate debut for the Mammoths in the event, posting a solid 6.54m mark to place fourth.
- Registering a new personal best in the javelin, Colleran secured the Mammoths' fifth event victory of the meet with a distance of 46.15m.

Amherst returns to action next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16 when they travel to Williamstown, Mass. for a quad meet with Williams, Tufts, and Middlebury.
