NESCAC RELEASE
HADLEY, Mass. – First-year pitcher and utility player
Maddie Procyk of the Amherst College softball team has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Pitcher of the Week following a stellar collegiate debut for the Mammoths in which she posted a 2-0 record.
Earning the start in game two of the Mammoths' season-opening weekend series against Little III rival Wesleyan, Procyk needed only 49 pitches to record a five inning, complete game shutout win. Giving the Cardinals nothing at the plate, the Monroe, Conn. native allowed just two hits and struck out two during the 8-0 victory.
Taking to the circle a day later on the road, Procyk once again came away with the win as she struck out five while allowing only one run in 4.0 innings to help Amherst to the 8-5 win and series sweep.
Totaling 9.0 innings across the starts, Procyk finished the series with a 0.78 ERA and a .78 WHIP as she held the Cardinals to a mere 1.94 batting average. Walking just one of the 31 batters she faced, Procyk gave up six hits and one run while striking out seven over the two-game span.
Procyk and the 3-0 Mammoths return to action in two weeks' time when they host Hamilton College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17 beginning at 2:00PM.
