Amherst Recognizes Senior Class, Tops Williams 11-2

Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. -- Going down 2-0 in the fifth inning, Amherst College baseball scored 11 unanswered runs over three innings to top Williams, 11-2, in an unexpected and sentimental senior day at Memorial Field.

Prior to the opening pitch, Amherst took a moment to honor their senior class of Carson Glazier '20, Jack Harlan '20, Topher Brown '20, Rob Casey III '20, Landry Mayo '20, Will Murphy '20, Zack Horwitz '20, and Severino Simeone '20. The Mammoths also took a moment to honor Williams' senior class of Kyle Dean, Charlie Carpenter, John Lamont, and Mike Stamas.

Amherst captures their third-straight win and moves to 3-0, while Williams drops to 0-3.

After a four-inning deadlock, the Ephs were first to get on the board when David Driscoll hit a low line-drive to right centerfield with bases loaded. Kai Terada-Herzer '21 laid out to stop the ball from rolling to the backstop, saving more runs as the Ephs only went up 1-0.

Glazier got the home side out of the jam, entering the game and striking out Daniel Lynch before forcing a pop up from Ryan Young to end the inning.

Getting on the board for the first time, Casey got on base with an error from the second basemen, which brought Severino Simeone '20 home from third. Chris Murphy '22 kept the rally going with an RBI single up the middle before Terada-Herzer capped off the three-run fifth inning with a single through the left side.

Glazier's impressive pitching performance carried over into the sixth when he struck out the side to maintain the one run lead for Amherst.

The Mammoths put up more runs in the sixth as Simeone kicked off proceedings, reaching home plate from first on a wild pitch and two errors from the Ephs defense. Murphy and Daniel Qin '22 followed up with a pair of doubles as Amherst entered the seventh with a five run lead (7-2).

After a 1-2-3 top-half of the inning, Amherst went to work on the offensive end as W. Murphy scored Simeone and Stephen Burke '21 off a triple before scoring on a wild pitch. Finishing off the scoring on the night, C. Murphy singled up the middle to plate Brown and give the Mammoths an 11-2 lead.

Amherst didn't give up a hit in the final four innings and went on to strike out seven of the final 12 batters.
