WATERVILLE, Maine – The Amherst College men's tennis team defeated Colby College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon for their fifth consecutive win and second straight New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory.
The #9 ranked Mammoths improve to 9-2 on the year and 2-0 in NESCAC play. Amherst is back in action tomorrow at 1:00 PM with another conference road match at Trinity.
Colby drops to 0-3 in NESCAC play and 4-6 overall. The Mules will host Bowdoin on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
Amherst broke a 2-2 tie with three straight singles victories, as Jayson Fung '20, Harris Foulkes '22 and Damien Ruparel '22 notched victories to increase Amherst's lead to 5-2 and clinch the victory.
Amherst got off on the right foot with a clean sweep at third doubles, as Foulkes and William Turchetta '22 defeated Hans Hwang and Luis Gonzalez Kompalic 8-0.
After the Mules claimed a point to tie the match, Ruparel and Kevin Ma '21 put the Mammoths ahead 2-1 with an 8-6 victory at second doubles.
Fung (2nd singles) Foulkes (4th singles) and Ruparel (5th singles) all won in straight sets to secure the 5-2 win.
