AMHERST, MA. — The #20 Amherst College men's tennis team capped off an excellent weekend with a dominant 7–0 sweep of Bates College on Sunday at the Amherst Tennis Courts, moving to 8–4 overall and completing a two-win weekend after Friday's victory over #11 Babson. Bates came in with momentum after besting Hamilton 6–1 on Saturday, but the Mammoths were sharp across singles and doubles, sweeping all singles matches in straight sets and getting the doubles point with strong performances at #2 and #3. 

HIGHLIGHTS

• The top three of the Amherst lineup was particularly strong on Sunday. Andreas Sillaste, George Chaidemenos, and Lukas Frangenberg each won their singles in an hour, and each conceded just two games per set at most, which left Bates with little room to breathe. Sillaste and Chaidemenos both bested their opponents 6–1, 6–1, while Frangenberg was equally dominant at 6–2, 6–2 against Theo Sardain.
• Ronald Gualario clinched the match at #6, closing out James Sacco 6–3, 6–1.
• In doubles, Amherst won two of three courts while #1 doubles went to Bates in a close battle.

Amherst now faces its biggest weekend of the regular season, hosting back-to-back NESCAC rivals at home; Middlebury on Saturday, April 18 at noon, followed by Williams on Sunday, April 19 at noon. Both are pivotal conference matches that will go a long way in shaping the Mammoths' NESCAC standing, and the team will look to carry Sunday's momentum into what promises to be a defining stretch of the spring.
