#20 Mammoths upset #11 Babson at home, 4-3

AMHERST, MA. — The #20 Amherst College men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4–3 victory over #11 Babson College on Friday at the Amherst Tennis Courts, improving to 7–4 on the season. Facing one of the top-ranked non-NESCAC opponents of the year, the Mammoths needed to battle for every point, none more so than the doubles line-up, where the team point came down to a tense tiebreak before Amherst secured the crucial 1–0 lead heading into singles.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lukas Frangenberg and Andreas Sillaste clinched the doubles point in the decisive fashion, coming through a tight first-set tiebreak against Maxim Zlobinsky and Alex Merson at #1 doubles, winning 7–6 (7–4) to give the Mammoths the edge. Babson split the remaining two courts, taking #2 doubles while Amherst won #3, making Frangenberg and Sillaste's performance the difference in the doubles.
  • In singles, George Chaidemenos was a standout, breezing past Edward Wang 6–4, 6–4 at #2 in a composed, efficient performance.
  • Lukas Frangenberg kept rolling at #3, dropping just four games across two sets against Sebastian Mendoza in a clean 6–3, 6–1 victory. 
  • Junior Rex Harrison grinded out a tight 7–5, 6–2 win at #5 to clinch the match on home courts.

Amherst returns to NESCAC action on Sunday, April 12 at noon, hosting Bates College at the Amherst Tennis Courts. The Mammoths will look to carry Friday's momentum into conference play and continue building their case in the conference standings.
