ORLANDO, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Amherst College men's tennis team continued its hot streak to start the spring season, dropping No. 20 Kenyon, 8-1 and sweeping Colby-Sawyer, 9-0 Monday at the USTA National Campus.
With the wins, Amherst moves to 4-0 on the season.
KENYON HIGHLIGHTS: Amherst 8, Kenyon 1
- Amherst's downed the completion on courts two through six in singles action and added a sweep in doubles play to secure the 8-1 victory.
- The Purple & White's sole loss came at the top of the ladder with Anton Zykov '17 falling to Nicholas Paolucci, 6-1, 6-7, 10-4 in a hard fought match.
- Zach Bessette '19 posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jacob Zalenski, while Josh Marchalik '20 downed Michael Liu in three-sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
- On the fourth court, Weston Noall fell to Jayson Fung '20, 6-3, 6-3 while Gabe Owens '20 and Oscar Burney '20 added 6-4, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-3 wins, respectively.
- In doubles action, Bessette/Fung edged Noall/Rieger, 9-7 in the No. 1 spot.
- Burney and Zykov claimed an 8-4 victory over Gelfand/Zalenski, while duo Nathan Kaplan '20 and Marchalik completed the doubles sweep with a 8-2 win.
COLBY-SAWYER HIGHLIGHTS: Amherst 9, Colby-Sawyer 0
- Amherst finished a perfect 9-0 against the Chargers, with Jon Heidenberg '19 leading the way with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the top spot in singles play.
- Jesse Levitin '19 powered past Alex Wright, 6-1, 6-0, while Sam Silver '17 logged back-to-back 6-0 set wins against Cass McCann.
- Chris Paradis '20, Cameron Raglin '19 and Oliver Kendall '19 each earned a victory on their respective courts, with Paradis edging Ryan Sawyer, 6-3, 6-1, Raglin downing Dean Boodakian, 6-4, 6-4 and Kendall defeating Ross Kenney 6-3, 6-2.
- In doubles action Silver and Heidenberg fought to an 8-3 win, while Paradis and Raglin posted an 8-5 victory.
- Levitin and Kendall rounded out play for Amherst, defeating Alex Wright/Cam Lynch, 8-1 on the third court.
