AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 5/4 Amherst College women's ice hockey team scored two first period goals to down conference rival Hamilton College, 3-1, Friday evening at Orr Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Amherst scored twice in the final ten minutes of the opening period to take a 2-0 lead into the second stanza.
• Eileen Harris '16 scored the lone goal of the second period, giving the Purple & White a three-goal cushion heading into the final period.
• Olivia Hawes scored Hamilton's only goal of the matchup, sending a power play shot into the netting with 12:33 to play in regulation.
• Both Amherst and Hamilton finished 1-4 on power play opportunities.
• Bailey Plaman '18 (5-0-0) registered 13 saves in the win for Amherst, while Sam Walther (9-8-2) made 33 stops in between the pipes for the Continentals.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Up a skater midway through the opening period, Ryan gave Amherst a 1-0 lead as she collected a pass from Alex Toupal '18 on the blue line and rifled a snap shot through traffic and into the bottom right corner of the net.
• First-year Katelyn Pantera scored her fourth goal of the season to make it a 2-0 contest with 2:35 remaining in the first stanza. Setting up on the far post, Pantera found Sara Culhane's '17 rebound and sent the puck into a wide-open net.
• The only score of the second period, assistant captain Eileen Harris '16 roofed a shot from the right face off dot over the shoulder of Sam Walther short side to give the Purple & White a three goal cushion.
• Olivia Hawes brought the Continentals within two at the 12:34 mark in the game's final period, deflecting a shot from Hannah Bartlett past the Amherst net minder.
• Hamilton applied heavy offensive pressure in the final five minutes of the outing, with Andrea Rockey nearly pulling the Continentals within one at the 4:52 mark, but Plaman was up to the task on the point blank shot.
• Ryan, Brenna Sullivan '18, Toupal, and Harris each had five shots on goal apiece to lead the Purple & White, while Hawes put a team-leading four shots on target for Hamilton.
