WATERVILLE, Maine – The top-ranked Amherst College men's tennis team claimed a 7-2 win over NESCAC rival Colby College Sunday afternoon in Waterville, Maine.
With the win, the Jeffs improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Mules drop to 6-6 overall.
Amherst took two matches in doubles play as juniors Aaron Revzin and Michael Solimano claimed an 8-5 win in the No. 1 position, and Andrew Yaraghi '16 and Anton Zykov '17 claimed an 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, the Jeffs took wins from the No. 2 position down to the No. 6. Solimano claimed the first set in No. 2 singles (7-6) before falling short in set two (6-3). However, the junior prevailed in the third and final set with a 6-0 sweep to take the match. Zykov won No. 3 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-3, and Revzin swept his opponent in the No. 4 spot.
At the bottom of the lineup, Andrew Arnaboldi '17 and Sean Rodriguez '15 took No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Arnaboldi edged Mark HoSang in the first set, 7-6 before sweeping set two, and Rodriguez won by scores of 6-1, 6-3.
The Jeffs return to the court Saturday, April 4 for their 2014-15 home opener against Tufts scheduled at 1 p.m.
