Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three different players scored in double-figures for the No. 3/2 Amherst College women's basketball team as it cruised to a commanding 63-39 win over non-conference foe Rhode Island College Wednesday night in Providence, R.I.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amherst strung together an impressive first half as it led by 23 at halftime, and never looked back.
- Three different players scored in double-figures for the Purple & White – Ali Doswell '17, Jackie Nagle '18 and Marley Giddins '16. Doswell led all scorers with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting and 3-of-6 from beyond-the-arc. Nagle went 5-of-8 from the floor for 13 points, while also grabbing six rebounds, and Giddins finished with 11 points and five boards. Meredith Doswell '17 pulled in a game-high seven rebounds to lead Amherst on the glass.
- Amherst shot 41.8% (23-55) from the floor, while Rhode Island was held to just 28.6% (12-42) shooting.
- The Anchormen were led by Alex Moore's 14 points as she went 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep. Devin Hill finished with 11 points, and Meghan Reall and Rybecca Gonzalez grabbed five rebounds each.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- Jessa Rubera hit a three-pointer in the opening seconds to give the home team a 3-0 lead, but it proved to be the Anchormen's largest lead of the game.
- Amherst outscored Rhode Island 18-6 the rest of the first quarter, as a lay-up by Meghan Sullivan '19 with 53 seconds remaining gave the visitor's a nine-point advantage after 10 minutes.
- The second stanza was all Purple & White as a jumper by Hannah Hackley '18 opened up a 20-0 Amherst run capped off by a pair of free throws from Ali Doswell.
- Amherst's stingy defense held the Anchormen scoreless for just over seven minutes of action during the second quarter.
- Amherst led 38-15 at halftime.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- The Purple & White continued to increase their lead in the third quarter.
- Following a pair of free throws by Hill, Amherst went on another run and scored 11 unanswered points to take a 49-17 advantage with 12:07 remaining in regulation.
- Rhode Island cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter, and outscored Amherst 19-14 in the final 10 minutes of action, but the margin was too large to overcome as the Purple & White claimed the 24-point victory.
UP NEXT
- Amherst has a two-week break and will resume play Monday, Dec. 28 with a non-conference matchup against Adrian in Daytona, Fla. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
- Rhode Island is back in action Saturday and will play Eastern Connecticut State on the road at 1 p.m.
