AMHERST, MA —
The Amherst College women's basketball team celebrated its five seniors — Brooke Ingemi, Anna Tranum, Laura Mendell, Annie McCarthy, and Sylvia Liddle — on Saturday afternoon before facing Williams College for the second time this season.
Coming off a win over Middlebury the night before, the Mammoths battled the Ephs, but Williams took an early lead and maintained it throughout the game, snapping Amherst's undefeated streak at home in a 59–44 loss.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

The game was back and forth for the first few possessions, but Williams eventually built an early lead and finished the first quarter ahead by eight, 12–4.

In the second quarter, the Ephs extended their advantage with perimeter shots and finishes at the rim, while limiting Amherst to just six points in the quarter. Williams carried a 29–10 lead into halftime.

Amherst opened the third quarter with renewed energy, going on a 5–0 run. Williams responded, however, maintaining their lead and entering the fourth quarter ahead 44–25.

In the final quarter, Amherst increased their defensive pressure and began to chip away at the deficit. Steals and key baskets from Laura Mendell, Brielle Renwick, and Reagan Pahl helped the Mammoths cut the lead to 10 with two minutes remaining. Despite the late push, Amherst was unable to equalize before the final buzzer, falling 59–44.

Chase Anderson led the Mammoths with 11 points, followed by Annie McCarthy with 9.

The Mammoths were efficient at the free-throw line, shooting 11-for-14.

With this loss, Amherst finishes the regular season with a 17–7 overall record (6–4 in NESCAC play).

The Mammoths return to action on Saturday, February 21, when they host the NESCAC quarterfinals. Their opponent will be officially determined following the conclusion of conference play tomorrow.
