Miller.jpg MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst College softball team recorded 17 hits en route to a decisive 13-4 victory in the first game of a NESCAC West/Little Three softball doubleheader at Wesleyan.

Amherst (11-2, 2-0 NESCAC West) made short work of the opening contest with a five-inning win before rain forced the suspension of the second game in the top of the 5th inning with Wesleyan (6-9, 0-2 NESCAC West) holding a 7-6 lead.  That game will be completed at a later date.

Senior Carolyn Miller led the Jeff's offensively in game one, going 4-for-4 while junior Donna Leet went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Senior Kaitlin Silkowitz was also perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Every member of the Amherst starting lineup had at least one hit off the pair of Cardinal pitchers.

Throwing the complete-game win for Amherst was senior Arielle Doering. She allowed just five hits and three earned runs and improved to 4-0 on the season.

Wesleyan got a pair of hits from first-year Abby Rutt. After Amherst jumped ahead, 3-0, in the top of the first, Wesleyan countered with a pair in the bottom. The Jeffs added a five-run outburst in the second, followed by two in the third and three in the fourth to put it away.

The Jeffs return to the field Tuesday, April 1 for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. against Westfield.
