CLERMONT, Fla. – The Amherst softball team moved to 7-2 on the season after splitting a pair of games against Western Connecticut State and SUNY Potsdam. Dropping their opener to the Colonials (2-1), the Jeffs rebounded by shutting out the Bears, 11-0.
Despite taking the loss, Jackie Buechler '17 was solid in seven innings of work, surrendering just three hits, while striking out five. Donna Leet '15 went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Nicolette Miranda '16 was 1-for-3 with a double. Carolyn Miller '14 also notched a hit in three at-bats, while Kaitlin Silkowitz '14 was 1-for-4 at the plate.
With the bats coming alive in game two, the Jeffs pushed across 10 runs. Miranda finished 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI, while Alena Marovitz '17 had a 1-for-3 day with a homer and three RBI. Silkowitz and Kelsey Ayers '15 each went 2-for-3, while Leet and Sarah McKay '16 combined for three base-knocks in five at-bats.
Arielle Doering '14 gave up just two hits in three innings, while Caroline Sealander '15 allowed just one hit in her three frames.
Amherst returns to action Saturday, Mar. 22 against SUNY Plattsburgh and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
