MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Amherst College softball team dropped to 5-4 in NESCAC West play with an 8-0 loss at Middlebury College Saturday afternoon. The Lord Jeffs will have to win at least two of next weekend's three games against Williams to earn a playoff berth.

Amherst moves to 13-14 overall, while the Panthers improve to 22-4 and finish 11-1 in the NESCAC West.

Geena Constantin allowed just two singles over six innings of work, earning the complete-game victory with 10 strikeouts. She helped her own cause by finishing 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs.

Theresa Kelley '13 (Los Angeles, CA) took the loss for Amherst, allowing eight runs—three earned—over 5.2 innings of work. Reilly Horan '13 (Darien, CT) and Christina Anderson '13 (Port St. Lucie, FL) accounted for the Jeffs' only two hits.

Constantin drove in Jessica Poracky with an RBI-single in the second inning. Middlebury then struck for four runs in the third, adding two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Lord Jeffs will begin a pivotal three-game series with Williams on Friday, Apr. 29, when they host  a 4:15 p.m. game in Amherst. The Jeffs and Ephs will then begin a doubleheader Saturday at noon in Williamstown. The winner of that series will earn the West Division's No. 2 seed in the NESCAC Championship.
