PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Senior forward Ellen Swiontkowski (Minnetonka, Minn.) had a goal and an assist to lead the seventh-ranked Amherst women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over No. 4 SUNY Plattsburgh.

With the win, the Lord Jeffs improved to 3-0-0 (2-0-0 NESCAC) on the year while the Cardinals fell to 5-1-1 (4-0-1 ECAC West) on the season.

After a scoreless first period, Swiontkowski buried her own rebound at 1:57 of the second to put the Lord Jeffs up 1-0. At 17:42 of the same period, Anne Gillard '15 (Calgary, Alberta) took a shot that Plattsburgh junior goaltender Sydney Aveson stopped but Barrett McBride (Glenview, Ill.) crashed the net, putting away the Jeffs second score of the evening.

With 4:54 gone in the third, first-year Melissa Martin (Berkley, Mass.) made it 3-0 Amherst with her third of the year from Josie Fisher '12 (Norwich, Vt.) and Swiontkowski.

Hoping to climb back into the game, Morgan MacInnis '15 put the Cardinals on the board at 10:59 of the third with a power-play goal from Ashton Hogan '15. Chelsea VanGlahn '14 then cut the Plattsburgh deficit to 3-2 at the 12:55 mark, tipping in a shot from Jenny Kistner '14 but that was as close as the Cardinals would get, with the Amherst defense holding steady the rest of the way.

Plattsburgh held a 31-27 edge in shots on goal. Sinead Murphy '12 (Rochester, Minn.) made 29 saves in her second victory while Aveson recorded 24 stops in her first loss of the year.
