Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Power play lifts UW-River Falls to 3-1 win over Amherst in NCAA semifinal

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – A championship season came to a close for the Amherst College women's ice hockey team in the NCAA Division III semifinals as the University of Wisconsin–River Falls capitalized on power-play opportunities to claim a 3-1 win on Friday night at Hunt Arena.

In a game that featured seven newly minted All-Americans on the ice for a rematch of last season's national championship game in the same arena, the defending national champion Falcons won their 25th straight game to advance to the final with a record of 28-1, where they will face Nazareth. The NESCAC champion Mammoths saw their seven-game winning streak snapped and finish their season with a 21-3-6 record.

The seven seniors in Amherst's Class of 2026 conclude their careers after authoring a four-year stretch that included three NESCAC championships, three appearances in the NCAA semifinals, two national runner-up finishes and a record of 91-17-9. Senior goaltender Natalie Stott, just the third four-time First Team All-American in Division III history, ends her career with 86 wins and 45 shutouts, both NCAA Division III records. Her final career save percentage is .960, which is also a DIII record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

• The Falcons scored on their first two power plays of the game. Midway through the first period, senior Megan Goodreau sent a pass from the right circle through the crease, where All-WIAC sophomore Alexa Niccum was waiting by the far post to slip in her 10th goal of the season.

• UWRF doubled its lead with another power-play tally early in the second period. After a shot through traffic from the high slot was saved by Stott, Goodreau found the rebound and the national Player of the Year scored her 37th goal of the season.

• Before the second period was through, the Falcons added a third goal when junior Madison Kadrlik got free on a breakaway. Her initial shot was saved by Stott but she was able to find the rebound and score her 14th goal of the season. UWRF became the first team all season to score three goals against the Mammoths.

• The Mammoths got one back with a power-play goal of their own with 3:06 remaining in the third period. Senior Marie-Eve Marleau sent a pass from the boards to senior All-American Maeve Reynolds, who was all alone in front of the goal to score her 12th goal of the season and the 42nd and final goal of her illustrious career.

BY THE NUMBERS:

• UW–River Falls held a 33-31 edge in shots on goal, while the Mammoths won 33 of 60 face-offs.

• Stott and Falcons goaltender Jordan O'Kane each made 30 saves in goal.

• Relatively few penalties were called but both teams were able to capitalize. The Falcons were 2-for-3 on the power play while the Mammoths were 1-for-2 with the extra skater.
