Jeffs Win at Conn. to Wrap Up Regular Season Unbeaten in NESCAC Play

NEW LONDON, CT - Sophomore forward Michelle McGann (New Berlin, WI) tallied a goal and an assist, leading Amherst College (17-3-4, 12-0-4 NESCAC) to a 3-1 victory at Connecticut College (7-13-4, 5-8-3 NESCAC) in NESCAC women's hockey action played at Dayton Arena Saturday night. The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Mar. 1 when they kick off NESCAC Championship action by hosting a first-round game.

Trailing 1-0 after a goal by Amherst senior co-captain Megan Quinn, the Camels applied pressure on Amherst in the second period, out-shooting the visitors by a count of 19-10. Kourtney Brim supplied the equalizer with 7:48 remaining in the frame. Sarah Napoli dished out her sixth assist of the season on the score.

With 14:38 remaining in regulation, McGann tallied what would prove to be the game winner for her 11th goal of the season. Sophomore Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI) assisted on the tally.

Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) added an insurance tally for Amherst with 1:59 remaining in regulation, with McGann and sophomore Kate Dennett (Highlands Ranch, CO) providing helpers, as the Lord Jeffs were able to hold on for the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) had 27 saves for the Jeffs, while sophomore Sara Christopher finished with 33 stops for the Camels.

Amherst has earned the No. 2 seed for the upcoming NESCAC Championships and will host seventh-seeded Bowdoin next Saturday for a 1 p.m. game at Orr Rink. The Camels have earned the No. 5 seed and will visit No. 4 Colby College for a 1 p.m. match-up.
