AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women's hockey team fell against visiting NESCAC rival Colby College Friday night, 5-3, and dropped to 5-8 overall and 3-7 in conference with the loss , while Colby improved to 8-4 overall (5-3 NESCAC).
Amherst opened the scoring after a scoreless first session when Amherst rookie Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) scored in her second consecutive game, poking home a rebound off a shot from fellow rookie forward Lindsay Harrington (Westford, MA). Senior forward Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) also tallied an assist on the power-play score. Colby answered just 23 second later when rookie defenseman Rebecca Julian (South Windsor, CT) converted assists from rookie forward Laura Anning (Ingramport, NS) and fellow rookie forward Laura Clemson (Anchorage AK). The Jeffs found the net again when sophomore forward Elizabeth Ditmore (Excelsior, MN) smashed back a slapper off the stick of sophomore defenseman Katherine Kelly (Shorewood, WI) while junior co-captain Meg Dickoff (Minnetonka, MN) grabbed the other assist. Colby answered quickly again as Anning tucked home a rebound from a Clemson shot to knot the score just 48 seconds later. Colby would take the lead for good when rookie forward Nicole Crocker (Dover, MA) scored on a slap shot that found its way through a screen with senior defenseman Caitline Leahy (Ashburnam MA) and rookie forward Colette Finley (St. Paul, MN) providing the feeds.
Colby pushed the lead when Clemson finished off a rebound from a Julian wrist-shot while sophomore defenseman Marissa Mullane (Wallingford, CT) also collected assists. Colby converted on the power play when Julian scored right after the face off with Anning notching her second assist. Amherst answered when senior forward Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) scored off the rebound from a shot by sophomore forward Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) with Dickoff adding her second helper of the evening
Sophomore netminder Stacey Johnston (Kingston, ON) made 33 saves for Amherst while Colby's Genevieve Triganne (Point-Clare, QC) had 37 stops.
The Lord Jeffs return to action tomorrow afternoon January 21, at 3 p.m. when they welcome ninth-ranked Bowdoin College to Orr Rink.
