Jeffs Blank Worcester St., Bow to Potsdam

March 15, 2005

FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst College softball team moved to 4-1-1 on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Worcester State and a narrow 1-0 loss to SUNY-Potsdam. Both games were played in Fort Myers, Florida.

Junior hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) tossed a one-hitter and fanned 12 Worcester St. batters in the opener, upping her pitching record to a perfect 3-0. Rookie Ralina Shaw (Tumwater, WA) doubled, singled and drove in all three Amherst runs, while classmate Elizabeth Neckes (Dover, MA) added a trio of singles.

First-year Samantha Miller (Newton, MA) pitched a complete game, struck out six and scattered just two hits against Potsdam but came away with the hard-luck loss. The Jeffs managed six hits in defeat - singles by Neckes, Miller, fellow rookie Laura Smith (Long Branch, NJ), sophomore Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) and juniors Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) and Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA).

Amherst returns to action in Fort Myers, Thursday at 9 a.m. against Suffolk University, followed by an 11 a.m. matchup against The College of Wooster.
