Undefeated Jeffs Pound UMass Boston, Blank Wilmington

FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst College softball team remained undefeated at 3-0-1 with a 7-1 win over UMass Boston and a 10-0 victory over Wilmington College in Fort Myers, Florida on Monday. Sophomore Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) combined for five hits in the double header and nearly hit for the cycle in the second game. 

Sophomore hurler Hilary Little (Kentfield, CA) drew the game-one start and earned her first win of the season, striking out five and surrendering just one hit against Wilmington. Rookie Samantha Miller (Newton, MA) came on in relief and scattered two hits and four strikeouts. Polales and first-year Ralina Shaw (Tumwater, WA) each doubled and singled in the win, while sophomore Annalise Rodli (La Canada, CA) singled twice and junior Kathryn Honderd (Atlanta, GA) doubled. 

Junior flamethrower Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) was lights-out in Game 2, allowing just two hits and fanning 11 Wilmington batters, upping her unblemished pitching record to 2-0. Polales was the story offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with a single, double, her second career home run and four RBIs. Shaw also singled, doubled and drove in a run, while juniors Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA) and Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) each singled twice. 

Amherst returns to action in Fort Myers, Tuesday at 9 a.m. against Worcester State, followed by an 1 p.m. matchup against SUNY-Potsdam.
