BRUNSWICK, ME - The 11th-ranked Amherst women's soccer team got a first-half goal by sophomore Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) and poured on a trio of unanswered tallies after the break in a 4-0 conference win at Bowdoin College on Saturday. Sophomore Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) and junior Emily Durwood (Kansas City, KS) combined in goal for the shutout.
Armstrong notched the game winner 12:55 into play as senior striker Tracy Montigny (East Granby, CT) found Armstrong at the top of the box and she sent a long shot past Bowdoin keeper Anna Shapell. Senior tri-captain Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) punched in her second score of the year, converting a corner kick for a 2-0 lead. Just 1:26 later, sophomore Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) sent a header into the goal for her first goal as a Lord Jeff, and junior Kate Biblowitz (Chappaqua, NY) tallied her first career goal, finding the net with less than a minute to play.
Crowell and Durwood collected four and two saves, respectively, as the Jeffs improved to 3-1-2 (2-0-1 NESCAC). Shapell posted six saves for Bowdoin, which dropped to 4-3 (2-2 NESCAC).
Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 p.m. against visiting Bates College.
