AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's tennis finished its fall slate a flawless 4-0, sweeping visiting Colby College on Sunday, 7-0. The Jeffs won nearly every set in singles competition, the closest match being a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 victory by first-year Jeffrey Wan (Staten Island, NY).
The Jeffs earned the doubles point with a pair of victories by sophomore Lenny Lepner (Tartu, Estonia) and Geoff Schwartz (Dallas, TX) and Wan and fellow rookie Tal Avrahami (Riverdale, NY). Lepner and Schwartz earned a hard fought 9-7 victory over Marc Kassin and Tony Gill at No. 1 doubles, while Wan and Avrahami bested James Cryan and Zach Schuman at No. 3, 8-4.
Amherst first-year Michael Mintz (New York, NY) posted a clutch 7-5, 6-4 victory over Kassin in singles play, and senior Max Rettig (Rockford, IL) and sophomore Jeff Lawrence (Irvine, CA) earned big wins as well. Rettig toppled John Fallon 6-3, 6-4, while Lawrence took down Gill, 6-3, 6-2.
