Jeffs Swept at West Division Foe Williams, 3-2 and 3-0

April 25, 2003

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Amherst softball team put forth a valiant effort but dropped both ends of a crucial NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Williams College on Friday, falling 3-2 and 3-0. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but moved to Friday due to the threat of inclement weather.

The visiting Jeffs held an early 2-0 advantage in the opener, thanks to run-scoring hits from rookie first baseman Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) and senior co-captain second baseman Emily Melia (Hingham, MA), who each finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. First-year hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) also had two hits and pitched both ends of the twinbill, but fell to 12-9 with the pair of losses.

Amherst managed just six hits in the nightcap, including another 2-for-4 outing by Trigeiro.

The Jeffs, now 12-12 overall and 4-4 in league play, return to action Monday at 4:30 p.m. at non-league foe Mt. Holyoke College.
