WORCESTER, MA - Reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) won her sixth straight pitching decision on Wednesday, while sophomore DH Kathryn Honderd (Atlanta, GA) snapped a scoreless tie with a game-winning two-run single in the sixth inning, as the Amherst softball team improved to 8-6 with a 5-1 win at non-league foe WPI.
Only a freshman, Warner upped her pitching record to 8-3, scattering four hits and striking out 11. Honderd finished 2-for-3 with three RBI's on the afternoon. Rookie first baseman Laura Trigeiro (Oakland, CA) scored twice and drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the seventh inning.
WPI fell to 0-10 with the loss.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at noon with a NESCAC West Division doubleheader against visiting Little Three rival Wesleyan University.
