FROM A MT. HOLYOKE COLLEGE RELEASE

November 25, 2003

S. HADLEY, MA - Despite 11 points from senior center Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA) and 10 points and seven rebounds from classmate Marissa McGuire (Minneapolis, MN), the Amherst College women's basketball team fell to 2-1 with its first loss of the season on Tuesday night - a 70-50 setback at non-league for Mt. The host Lyons took an early 8-2 lead and never looked back, taking advantage of 26 Amherst turnovers. Junior guard Sara Belding (Sebastopol, CA) gave Mt. Holyoke a 16-point lead at the break with a three-pointer at the buzzer, and the Lyons shot an even 50.0% (9-for-18) overall from behind the arc.

Amherst returns to action next Wednesday, December 3, hosting non-league foe Keene State College.
