FORT MYERS, FL – Behind a complete-game, two-hit pitching performance by senior hurler Jeff Leduc (Pittsfield, MA), the Amherst baseball team snapped a two-game losing skid with a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence University Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. The win was Leduc's first of the season as he improved to 1-0 and the Jeffs evened their record at 4-4 overall.
Amherst scored its four runs on eight hits. Sophomore third baseman Matt Potter (Durham, NC) led the way with three hits and a walk, while first-year shortstop Josh Santry (Allendale, NJ) added two hits, a walk and a run scored.
Leduc struck out seven and notched his eighth career complete game in just his second start of the season – he went 5.2 innings in a no decision against Johns Hopkins on March 18. A Second-Team All-NESCAC selection in 2001, Leduc went the distance six times as a junior en route to a 5-1 record.
Amherst continues its spring slate in Fort Myers on Saturday with a doubleheader against Kalamazoo College, starting at 1 p.m.
