AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Andy Ditchfield (Lebanon, NH), Kevin Downes (Pound Ridge, NY) and Graham Callaghan (Burlington, CT) combined to strike out 14 Falcons as Amherst College (18-8) shut out Fitchburg State College (5-20) at Hitchcock Field. Ditchfield earned the win as he fanned nine in six innings. Callaghan closed out the 9th with a trio of Ks.

Junior centerfielder Spencer Christensen (Southboro, MA) went 3-for-5 and scored three runs while stealing two bases for Amherst. Senior co-captain Mike Sullivan (Andover, MA) also was 3-for-5 at the plate. The leftfielder knocked in three runs before scoring in the bottom of the 5th when a Falcon error turned a single into an infield home run. Fitchburg State committed eight errors in nine innings.

Junior centerfielder Scott Marchand (Fitchburg, MA) led the Falcons with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Joshua Bremberg (Melrose, MA) pitched a complete game for Fitchburg State as he struck out five and walked none.

The Jeffs next face Little III rival Wesleyan tomorrow at 3:30pm in Amherst.
