AMHERST, Massachusetts -- David Guiliano (Scotia, NY) singled in the top of the 6th inning and came home on an RBI single by Ryan Lawrence (Cumberland, ME) two batters later as Keene State College (3-6-1) defeated Amherst College (9-2) on Hitchcock Field.
After three 1-2-3 innings, Guiliano notched the first hit of the game to lead off the 4th. Leftfielder Joe Russell (Boscowen, NH) registered the Owls' sixth and final hit of the game in the 7th inning, a solo home run, the first of his sophomore season.
Keene State held Amherst to just two hits, a pair of singles by Greg Berchelmann (St. Louis, MO) and senior co-captain Mike Sullivan (Andover, MA) in the 5th and 7th innings, respectively. Both also stole 2nd, but were among six Lord Jeffs stranded on base.
Keith Kraft (Andover, NH) earns the win for the Owls, while Mike Sweeney (Keene, NH) suffers his first loss of the season. The Amherst pitching staff fanned 10 Owls at the plate, while Keene State struck out seven Lord Jeffs.
Keene State next travels to Fitchburg State on Tuesday for a 3:00pm game while Amherst will host WNEC at 3:00pm on Wednesday.
