AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst bettered its record to 23-4 as the No. 1 team in New England with two wins over Middlebury. Josh Carroll (Winchester, MA) went 5-8 in the doubleheader, including his fifth home run of the season.
Amherst's first three batters put the Jeffs up 3-0 in game one as Middlebury committed two of its four errors. Carroll and Mike Brendler (Swarthmore, PA) led the Jeffs with two hits a piece while Middlebury's Judd Bruzgul (Orchard Park, NY) and Davin Wilfrid (Princeton, NJ) both had a single and double for the Panthers.
The Jeffs scored seven runs in the 2nd inning of game two as a dozen batters came to the plate. Amherst closed out the game with a five-run 6th.
Amherst will host Endicott tomorrow at 4:00pm. Middlebury falls to 9-9 for the season and will travel to Castleton on Wednesday for their next game.
