Men's Squash Defeats Ivies, Wins Little III

After crushing both Yale and Brown, men's squash claimed their third straight Little III title by defeating both Williams and Wesleyan. Against the Bulldogs, Amherst prevailed 8-1, including a come-from-behind victory by Jamie Ford '98 (Rosemont, PA). Down two games, Ford rebounded with 15-12, 15-6 and 15-7 wins to claim the No. 8 spot in five. Two days later, Brown pushed Nos. 2, 3 and 4 to five games before falling 9-0. Kevin Orphan '99 (Atlanta, GA) found himself trailing in the third after taking the first two games. Fighting to 13-15 and 16-17 decisions, Orphan rallied to a 15-0 blanking in the fifth game. At Nos. 3 and 4, Co-Captain Collin Bell '97 (Haverford, PA) and Hayden Felice '98 (Radnor, PA) both fell behind 2-0 before 17-16, 17-6, 15-8 victories in the next three.

The men dropped a single match to Williams and Wesleyan. While Ford struggled through four games, No. 6 Stephen Seelbach '99 (Short Hills, NJ) won two before dropping the next two to the Ephs. With a 15-10 decision in the fifth, Seelbach helped the Jeffs to an 8-1 win over Williams. All nine flights breezed to wins over the Cardinals for the Little III title.

This week the No.3 team in the nation faces the only two ranked above the Jeffs. Hosting Harvard on Tuesday, Amherst hopes to upset the top-ranked team before traveling to No.2 Trinity.
