Mammoth Men Deliver Record-Breaking Performance at Spring Fling

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College men's track and field team turned in a dominant showing at the Amherst Spring Fling highlighted by school records, nationally ranked performances, and a wave of personal bests across multiple event groups.

School Records & National Rankings

Jordan Harrison delivered one of the most electrifying performances of the meet, breaking the school record in the 100m with a blazing time of 10.52. His mark currently ranks #8 in Division III, placing him among the fastest sprinters in the nation.

In the field, Charlie Spurrell made history in the hammer throw, setting a new school record and personal best of 56.21 meters, his first PR in four years and a major milestone for the program.This toss ranks him at #12 nationally.

The men's 4x100m relay team also continues to climb the national ranks, running a time of 41.36 that's now sitting at #11 in Division III and establishing themselves as a serious postseason contender.

Sprint & Hurdle Performances

Amherst's sprinters and hurdlers showed exceptional depth and improvement. In the 110m hurdles, Keason Ky (15.04), Christoph Osselmann-Chai (15.50), Isaiah Robinson (16.02), and Zach Villegas (17.29) all recorded personal bests, marking a standout day for the group.
In the 100m dash, Alexander Nichols (10.72)  and LJ Maslowski (10.81) joined Harrison in posting personal bests, highlighting the team's sprint strength and momentum.

Middle Distance Highlights

The Mammoths also delivered strong performances in the middle-distance events. Cody Pierce ran a 48.06 400m run that put him #17 nationally. Ben Davis turned in a solid 800m race running 1:52.25 which is #9 nationally and Parker Boyle ran a 1:51.86 placing him #4 nationally, demonstrating consistency and competitiveness in a deep field.
 
DISTANCE CREW SHINES in the 1500m
The Amherst men's distance squad delivered an outstanding performance in the 1500m, with multiple athletes recording personal bests in a deep and competitive field.

Stan Craig led the way with a PR of 3:51.56, followed closely by Henry Dennen, who also notched a personal best of 3:52.13. Which ranks them at #10 and #15 nationally respectively.

Amherst continued to show depth as Jacob Connolly (3:59.26) and Carter Bengtson (3:59.94) both broke the four-minute barrier for the first time, each earning new personal bests.

Further down the field, additional Mammoths including Harrison Dow, Ben Kasen, Sam Young, and others also recorded personal bests in the 1500, highlighting a huge day for the distance group and emphasizing the team's strength across all levels.

Throws Continue to Excel

Amherst's throwers once again played a major role in the team's success. In addition to Spurrell's record-setting performance, Alex McDonald recorded a new personal best in the discus with a mark of 45.27 meters.

Amir Ali also recorded a new personal best of 43.79m in the discus and 39.85m in the hammer throw. Gavin Schmidt won the discus with a throw of 51.17m and had a new personal best in the hammer throw of 47.44m.

Rafi Ahmed added to the momentum in the hammer throw, achieving a personal best of 39.85 meters and contributing to a strong overall showing in the event group.

Looking Ahead

With multiple nationally ranked performances, record-setting marks, and continued progression across the roster, Amherst will be competing at the Umass Commonwealth Invitational (April 11) and the Smith Invite & Multi (April 10-11).
