CAMBRIDGE, MA. — The #18 Amherst College men's tennis team defeated MIT 6–1 on Thursday afternoon in Cambridge, improving to 10–5 overall after a strong response in singles. Amherst had to overcome an early deficit after MIT took the doubles point, but the Mammoths showed real grit and depth once singles began, winning all six matches to turn the dual completely in their favor. The result was another good road win for Amherst and a clear sign of how consistent he lineup can be once it gets rolling.
HIGHLIGHTS
- MIT opened with the doubles point, winning at #1 and #3 to take an early 1–0 lead. Amherst managed to prevail on the second doubles court, but the Mammoths were forced to chase after the opening round.
- In singles, Andreas Sillaste, George Chaidemenos, Lukas Frangenberg, Aldiyar Abzhan, Rex Harrison, and Albert Hu all won their singles matches, giving Amherst a clean sweep in the second half of the dual.
- Rex Harrison's 6–0, 4–6, 6–4 win at #5 stood out as one of the tightest and most important battles, where Harrison came back from being a break down in the third set to finish the singles sweep for the Mammoths.
