Wick’s 9-Point Night Helps Mammoths Surge Into NESCACs with 15-7 Victory Over Trinity

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's lacrosse delivered exactly the kind of performance you'd want heading into the NESCAC tournament this weekend, jumping on Trinity early and cruising to a 15-7 win tonight at Gooding Field.

The Mammoths (8-6, 6-4 NESCAC) set the tone immediately with a 5-0 first quarter, then kept the pressure on with a 6-goal second to carry an 11-1 lead into halftime. Amherst's lead never dipped into single digits the rest of the way, allowing the Mammoths to stay composed, spread minutes, and close out a convincing eight-goal win as postseason lacrosse approaches this weekend.

Ben Wick was the driving force throughout the night, scoring five goals and providing four assists for a total of nine points. Alex Vlacich added three goals, Willie Doyle scored twice, and Amherst got additional goals from Max Youssefnia, Brendan Reilly, Matthew Sheinberg, Sam Schafer, and Sam Sneider. In goal, Brooks Catlin anchored the win with 14 saves in 52:35, and Spencer Will added four saves in relief.

With the win, Amherst earned the fourth-seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. On Saturday at 1 p.m., they will host fifth-seeded Bates in a quarterfinal game.
