AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College men's track & field team dispersed to four different meets over the weekend: The Friar Invitational, the Silfen Invitational, the Tufts Stampede and the UMass-Amherst Commonwealt Invitational.
The Mammoths delivered an impressive showing at the Friar Invitational highlighted by a series of personal bests and nationally ranked performances in the distance events.
Leading the way was
Stan Craig, who turned in a dominant effort in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 14:14.15 to rank among the top times in Division III this season. Battling the windy elements and racing largely unpaced, Stan's performance stood as one of the top marks nationally.
Amherst placed multiple runners under the 15-minute barrier in the 5K, including a breakthrough race from
Harrison Dow, who clocked a 14:32.37 personal best.
Ben Kasen also added a personal record in the event of 14:57.33, contributing to a strong overall showing for the Mammoths' distance squad.
Silfen Invitational Stand outs
At the Silfen Invitational, In the 10,000 meters
Drew Stephens and
Sam Young both dipped under 32 minutes for the first time in their careers, running 31:43.53 and 31:51.47, respectively. The performances rank them among the top competitors in the NESCAC this season.
The Mammoths also saw success in the middle-distance events, where
Parker Boyle claimed a heat victory in the mile with a time of 4:10.21, improving upon his season-best conversion from the 1500 meters and continuing his strong spring campaign.
Additional competition came in the 800 meters, where Amherst's
Ben Davis ran 1:52.32 in the invitational section against Division I competition .
With multiple personal bests and nationally competitive marks, Amherst's men's distance group continues to build momentum heading into the championship portion of the outdoor season.
Men's Track & Field Multis Post Strong Showing at Tufts Spring Stampede
The Amherst College men's track & field team turned in an impressive weekend in the decathlon at the Tufts Stampede, highlighted by multiple personal records and a nationally competitive performance from junior Marshall.
Marshall Dunahoe led the Mammoths with a breakthrough decathlon, totaling 5807 points to secure a personal record and move into NCAA qualifying territory. His performance was fueled by several event PRs, including the long jump (6.60m), high jump (1.85m), discus (32.64m), pole vault (3.40m), the 1500 meter run (5:05.30), the 400 meter run (54.19), and the 100 meter dash at (11.63) . His mark ranks among the top performances in Division III this season and also an Amherst College 4th all time best.
Isaiah Robinson delivered a strong all-around effort, posting 5192 points across the two-day competition. He recorded personal bests in the Shot Put (10.24m), 100 meters (11.42) and 1500 meters (5:15.39), while adding a season-best in the long jump (6.18m) and a PR in the 400 meters (53.02), highlighting his continued development across events.
Zach Villegas rounded out the Mammoths' performances with a personal-best 5064-point finish in the decathlon. Zach showed consistency throughout the competition, earning PRs in the long jump (6.27m) while tying his personal best in the high jump (1.73m).
Across the board, Amherst's decathletes demonstrated depth and momentum, combining for numerous personal bests and positioning themselves well as the outdoor season progresses.
Men's Track & Field Records PRs and Season Bests at UMass Commonwealth Invite
The Amherst College men's track & field team competed at the UMass Commonwealth Invite on Saturday, highlighted by numerous personal records, season bests, and continued progress across event groups.
On the track, Amherst saw success in the sprints and hurdles.
Ian Irwin recorded a season-best performance in the 100 meters (10.69), while Ben Williams added a season best in the 200 meters (23.95). In the hurdles, Noah Harris (15.77) and Micheal Gerfen (15.90) each posted season-best times in the 110-meter hurdles, while
Keason Ky recorded a strong mark (15.00) despite wind-aided conditions.
The distance squad continued its momentum with several standout performances. In the 1500 meters,
Will Reeves delivered a major season-best performance, finishing just two seconds off his high school personal record (3:58.10). In the steeplechase, Greg Baldinucci improved by 12 seconds for a season best (10:22.76), while Harry Talcott matched his lifetime best (9:37.94).
Finn O'Hara also added a season-best performance in the 800 meters (1:59.50), contributing to a strong showing from the middle-distance group.
In the field events, Amherst saw multiple top performances led by
Matt Kasper, who qualified for the NESCAC Championships in both the long jump (6.71m) and triple jump (13.08m), highlighted by a personal best in the long jump. His efforts led to a strong day for the Mammoths' jumpers.
Alec Kuzyk also took home the win in pole vault, vaulting a mark of (4.61m) to take the win. Micheal Abbey qualified in both the triple jump (13.40m) and high jump (1.82m).
On the throwing side of things,
Gavin Schmidt recorded a toss of (50.71m) which gave him the win whilst also remaining consistent in the 50m range.
Amir Ali also recorded a discus college best of (43.86m).
Alex MacDonald had a new personal record of (44.30m) in discus building momentum across the board.
