#11 Mammoth Men Defeat Colby 5-2 for 1st Conference Win

WATERVILLE, ME — The #11 Amherst College men's tennis team bounced back from Saturday's 6–1 NESCAC loss to #7 Bowdoin with a gritty 5–2 victory over Colby on Sunday on Colby's home courts, securing its first conference win and moving to 2–2 overall (1–1 NESCAC).

After dropping the doubles point on courts 1 and 2, the Mammoths stormed through singles, claiming five of six courts, including two three-setters and three straight-set victories to overcome the early deficit. The Mammoths will now prepare for their spring break trip to South Carolina, where they will play three dual-matches. 

HIGHLIGHTS

* Rex Harrison, Albert Hu, and Lukas Frangenberg provided straight-sets firepower: Harrison 6–2, 6–2 at #4, Hu 6–2, 6–2 at #6, and Frangenberg getting the Mammoths' first point at #2, also with the score of  6–2, 6–2.

* From a set and a break down, at the #5 spot, Ronald Gualario battled back to win 1-6. 6-3, 7-5 against Marco Ziets-Segura to get the Mammoths' third point.

* Andreas Sillaste delivered the clinching point at #1 singles, rallying from a first-set loss to top Bilal Asim 4–6, 6–3, 6–3 in a crucial three-setter
