#11 Mammoth Men Iced by Polar Bears, 6-1

BRUNSWICK, ME — The #11 Amherst College men's tennis team fell 6–1 to #7 Bowdoin on Saturday in the Mammoths' NESCAC opener and second top-10 clash of the season, after dropping a decision to #8 Swarthmore last weekend. Amherst moves to 1–2 on the year, and 0-1 in the NESCAC. 

In Saturday's match, Bowdoin grabbed an early lead with doubles, winning on all three courts. The Bowdoin College Polar Bears then used strong singles play to pull away, securing straight-set wins on courts #5 and #6, and close three-set wins on courts #2, #3, and #4.

        GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Andreas Sillaste delivered Amherst's top singles effort at #1, prevailing against Mark Kneiss in a tight three-set match,  2–6, 6–2, 6–4, despite dropping the opener. Kneiss and Sillaste faced each other twice in the fall: once at the MIT Invitational, and once in the ITA Regional championship match, both winning one match each.

UP NEXT

Amherst heads to Colby on Sunday, March 8 at noon for its second NESCAC matchup of the weekend. The Mammoths seek their first conference victory on their away trip to Maine.
