Mammoths' Offense Shifts Into High Gear in Sweep of Framingham State

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- It seems the Amherst College baseball team found Thursday's 20-5 win over Macalester to its liking, as the Mammoths used that as a springboard to a Friday sweep of Framingham State, producing 34 runs on 34 hits in a 14-4, 20-6 tour de force at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Amherst improved to 7-2 on the season with the two victories. The Mammoths close out their Spring Break trip Saturday with a doubleheader vs. Lawrence University beginning at 12 p.m. at the Main Field of the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Game 1: Amherst 14, Framingam 4, 7 Inn.

*  It was a day of big innings for Amherst and it began right here as the Mammoths scored eight in six more in the fifth to runaway with this one. In the second, Carson Ames had a two-run double that tied the game 2-2. Aiden Dubetsky followed him with a two-run single trough the right side of the infield for a 4-2 lead. Tyler McCord added a two-run single, Charlie LaFreniere had a sacrifice fly and Jackson Boyer capped the uprising with an RBI-single. Boyer went 2 for 2 in the frame.

* The six-run fifth began when Boyer singled, but after an out, e was picked off for te second out. Ames would reach on an error and six consecutive Amherst hits would follow, capped by a two-run LaFreniere home run that cleared the fence in left field.

* Boyer went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Seven other Mammoths had two hits in the win. McCord was 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Dubetsky was 2 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 RBIs. LaFreniere was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and the home run.

Game 2: Amherst 20, Framinghham 6, 7 Inn.

* A 15-run top of the third put this one away early. A LaFreniere RBI-single in the first had made it 1-0 Purple & White, and Ames then lined an RBI-double followed by a two-run jack from outfielder Leo Foust for a tree-run second and 4-1 lead.

* In the Amherst third, LaFreniere batted three times and went 1 for 2 with a walk. The walk led off the inning and was followed by singles from James Darcy and J.J. Grimes. First-year Xander Carnahan then launched a grand slam home run well over the fence in left for an 8-2 Amherst lead. Darcy and Grimes each went 2 for 2 in the frame and the Rams committed four errors.

* Again, seven players had two hits in the win, including Matthew Chen who came in later and went 2 for 2. Carnahan went 2 for 5 withh 4 RBIs and the grand slam. McCord was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
