SWARTHMORE, PA – The 10th-ranked Amherst College men's tennis team battled hard on the road but came up short against No. 8 Swarthmore, falling 6-1 in a top-10 showdown on Sunday afternoon. Playing on the Garnet's home courts, the Mammoths dropped a tightly contested doubles point and were unable to climb all the way back in singles, closing their opening weekend at 1-1. Three out of six singles matches were decided in the final third set, with Swarthmore prevailing in all of them.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Amherst struck first at the top of the lineup in doubles, as Andreas Sillaste and Lukas Frangenberg earned a sharp 6-4 victory at #1 doubles to notch the Mammoths' lone win in doubles. Despite that result, Swarthmore captured wins at #2 and #3 doubles under the three-match format to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 team lead.

  • In singles, junior Rex Harrison delivered Amherst's standout performance at the #6 spot, grinding out a 6-2, 7-5 victory that showcased his consistency and toughness from the baseline. Harrison's straight-sets win put Amherst on the board in the lower half of the lineup and capped a strong personal weekend in singles for Harrison.
