#11 MAMMOTHS BEST CARDINALS IN HILTON HEAD, 6-1

3/16/2026 7:23:00 PM

Box Score
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The #11 Amherst College men's tennis team kicked off its spring break trip with a 5–2 victory over #24 Wesleyan on Monday in a weather-disrupted match that tested the Mammoths' resilience from the opening game. Singles were played first, which is an unusual reversal of the standard format where doubles is played first. Singles were played first to get as many courts started before the rain arrived, and just 10 minutes in, play was halted for a 15-minute weather delay before resuming through to completion. Amherst improves to 3–2 on the season, though the result does not count toward the NESCAC standings.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Lukas Frangenberg was the first man off the court, blazing through a 6–3, 6–1 win at #3 singles against Chase Burke to give Amherst an early singles boost and set the tone for the day. Aldiyar Abzhan followed Frangenberg with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Max Litton at #4 only a minute later.
George Chaidemenos delivered the grittiest performance of the afternoon in a nearly three-hour battle at #2, ultimately prevailing in three sets by winning both the first and second set in tiebreaks, saving two set points in the second before closing the match out. Ronald Gualario rounded out the performances with a clean 6–2, 6–3, match-clinching victory at #6, wrapping up the team's fourth point.
