AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior Day at Orr Rink showcased exactly what has defined the #2-ranked Amherst College women's hockey team all season: composure, toughness, and an ability to compete until the final whistle.
The Mammoths skated toe-to-toe with Colby through regulation and overtime, finishing tied 1–1 after 65 minutes before the Mules claimed the shootout decision, 1-0. In front of a home crowd honoring Amherst's senior class, the Mammoths delivered a disciplined, high-effort performance highlighted by strong defensive play and standout goaltending.
Colby opened the scoring early in the first period on a power play, as Marion Legge found the back of the net at 4:50 to give the Mules a brief advantage. Amherst responded steadily, generating sustained pressure and forcing Colby goaltender Ally Martiniello into multiple saves.
The response came at 11:48 when senior forward Maeve Reynolds evened the score with her eighth goal of the season. Set up by Bea Flynn and Marie-Eve Marleau, Reynolds' finish energized the bench and the crowd, tying the game before the first intermission.
From there, the contest settled into a defensive battle. Amherst goalie Ally Martiniello anchored the Mammoths with a calm, confident performance, turning aside chances in tight and handling traffic with ease. In front of her, Amherst's defense was active and physical, blocking shots and limiting second chances as the pace intensified.
The second and third periods featured long stretches of pressure from both teams, but neither side could break through. Amherst came closest in the third when a shot rang off the post, while Colby countered with several dangerous opportunities that were met by Martiniello's positioning and composure. Special teams opportunities came and went, but the score remained deadlocked.
Overtime reflected the balance of the game. Both teams generated chances in transition and forced key saves, but strong defensive structure and goaltending pushed the contest to a shootout.
In the shootout, Colby converted early while Amherst was unable to capitalize, bringing an end to a tightly contested matchup. Despite the result, the Mammoths' performance on Senior Day reflected the leadership and competitiveness of their graduating class—steady under pressure and fully committed from start to finish.
