Mammoths rebound from early deficit to tie Trinity 1-1; win shootout, 2-0

AMHERST, Mass. -- Maeve Reynolds scored in the third period and again in the shootout Friday night at Orr Rink, rallying the #4 Amherst College women's hockey team to a 2-0 shootout win over Trinity College.

Of course te game goes into the books as a 1-1 tie, moving Amherst to 14-2-5 on the season and the Bantams 6-13-2. The two teams face each again Saturday, this time in Hartford, Conn at 7 p.m.

Trinity opened the scoring just six seconds into the game, converting off the opening face-off to take an early 1–0 lead. Amherst responded immediately, generating multiple shots in the opening minute and establishing offensive-zone pressure for much of the first period. Despite the early deficit, Amherst controlled possession for long stretches and limited Trinity's chances, with Natalie Stott making key saves to keep the score unchanged.

The second period followed a similar rhythm, with Amherst dictating pace and earning several power-play opportunities. The Mammoths generated consistent looks from the slot and point but were unable to convert, while defensively holding Trinity to low-quality chances.

Amherst broke through early in the third period to level the score. At 3:00, Maeve Reynolds scored her 9th goal of the season, re-directing a shot from the blueline by teammate Clare O'Connor to make it 1–1. The goal capped sustained pressure and reflected Amherst's territorial control.

The remainder of regulation remained tightly contested, with both teams exchanging chances but unable to find a go-ahead goal. Amherst continued to apply pressure late, while Trinity relied on shot blocking and goaltending to hold the tie.

Overtime was scoreless, with Amherst controlling possession and creating multiple shot attempts, while Trinity defended effectively to force the draw.

In the shootout, Reynolds and Cara Mancini scored while Stott stopped both Bantam shooters to gain the extra point.
