AMHERST, MA – Senior forward Josh Burke (Tampa, Fla.) was named one of 36 Semifinalists for the 25th annual Joe Concannon Award, it was announced and presented by the Gridiron Club of New England.
Honoring the best American-born hockey player in New England at the Division II or III level, the Concannon Award was established in 2001 shortly after its namesake's passing. A longtime writer for The Boston Globe, Concannon had a great passion for the game of college hockey while always advocating strongly for amateur athletics. The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the Award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of NCAA Division III Frozen Four on March 27-29 in Utica, NY.
Burke was named a semifinalist during a season in which he is leading the Mammoths in points, sitting at 18 on 9 goals and 9 assists, while also skating to a plus/minus of +9. He is a vital piece of Amherst's most consistent offensive line, with their top line of Burke, Zachary Murray, and John Small currently the Mammoths' top three point-scorers on the season.
The Mammoths currently sit at 10-7-2 overall and 5-7-1 in the NESCAC, with their next game at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 7 against nationally ranked Bowdoin.
