Box Score AMHERST, MA – A Mammoth comeback sealed an important win against local NESCAC foe Trinity on Friday, Jan. 30. In the second of three straight home games the Mammoths took on the Bantams for the second time this season after a 4-2 win in the teams' first meeting. After going down 2-0 early in the second, Amherst scored four unanswered goals to win 4-2.

With the win the Mammoths improve to 9-6-2 on the season while the Bantams drop to 9-8-0. Amherst will close out their brief home stand tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 31 against Wesleyan. The Mammoths will take on the Cardinals in the second of their two-game series, with Wesleyan having come out on top in a tight first game, 2-1. Puck drop at Orr Rink is scheduled for 3 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Trinity took the lead early, scoring twice in the first period and a half to take a 2-0 lead with 12:46 to go in the second frame. The Mammoths turned it on from there, pressuring the Bantams offensively and putting shot after shot on net. That pressure yielded the first goal of the game after a Trinity penalty put the Mammoths on the power play.
* On the ensuing power play, Mammoths set up their offense and found the back of the net off a series of pinpoint passes. Josh Burke got the puck on the blue line and skated into the right faceoff circle before finding John Small in the spot he had just vacated. The first-year slid it back to Burke as he cycled high, with the senior putting the puck right onto the stick of Andrew Carmody. Carmody rifled a slap shot from the left faceoff dot to the far corner to cut the Trinity lead in half heading into the final frame.
* The second Amherst tally came 46 seconds into the third off sports-center like play. Cristobal Tola won the neutral zone faceoff, pushing the puck back to Ray Hou. Hou found his D-partner Caden Olenczak, and the first year skated to the blue line near the boards. Olenczak threw the puck into the offensive zone, with it bouncing off the side boards and into the goal to tie the game.
* Burke's game winner was a thing of beauty. The senior received the puck from Quinton Gove in the middle of his defensive zone and then pulled out all the stops to get the goal. He skated past the first defender into the neutral zone, before slipping to his left to blow by two more defenders into the offensive zone. Burke then uncorked a shot from the inside edge of the left faceoff circle that beat the Bantam goalie top corner. Amherst 3, Trinity 2.
* Vincent Velocci put in an empty netter, off assists from Small and Quinton with 38 seconds remaining to seal the 4-2 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS:
* Trinity outshot Amherst 42-24 in shots on goal, as well as 67-43 overall.

* Burke and Jacob Pohl led the Mammoths with 4 shots on goal in the contest. Burke also put in a great shift on the defensive end, tying with Ray Hou for the team lead in blocked shots with 3.

* Netminder Andrew Palena had a great night in net, getting the win in a 40 save effort.
