AMHERST, MA — On Sunday, The Amherst College men's squash team battled their way to another very close victory. On Saturday, the Mammoths defeated Navy 5-4, and on Sunday they came up on top against Franklin and Marshall College with the score of 6-3. Sunday's win extends the Mammoths' winning streak to 5, and their record to 5-0.
With several strong first-years, and improved upperclassmen, the Mammoths are looking strong at the start of the 2025-2026 season. Amherst's next match on January 13th will be against a NESCAC opponent, Tufts University. It will be their third NESCAC match of the season. With the Jumbos at #11 and the Mammoths at #14, the match is anticipated to be a close one, and the Mammoths are looking to get away with the win. The Mammoths are confident as they are still undefeated in the 2025-2026 season.
The Mammoths are currently the #14 team in the nation, and Franklin and Marshall College is at #16. The Mammoths proved their ranking with wins over the #15 Navy and #16 Franklin and Marshall this weekend.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Grady Herbert at the #8 singles spot goes 6-0 in sets for the weekend with another 3-0 win on Sunday. Against Franklin and Marshall, he had the quickest match of the day, winning in 28 minutes. He was also the quickest to finish his match on Saturday, also in 28 minutes.
- Captain Joseph Toth, Fares Hairy, and Aiden Shap go 6-1 in sets for the weekend.
