AMHERST, MA — The Amherst College men's squash team returned to competition on Saturday to start off their 2025-26 season. They hosted the Hamilton College Continentals at home, the Davenport Squash Courts. The Mammoths came up on top with a 9-0 sweep, winning 27/29 sets played today.
Last season, The Mammoths finished with a 11-10 record, making it to CSA Championships at the end of the season. In NESCAC play, they had a 5-4 record in the regular season (5-5 including NESCAC tournament). The Mammoths finished with a national ranking of #19, and are looking to improve this season with a lot of new talented players on the roster. Amherst's goal is to be in the top 12 teams in the nation ahead of nationals to compete in the highest division of collegiate squash.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Aiden Shap had the quickest match of the day at the #9 spot, besting James Merrill in only 20 minutes. This is Aiden's first collegiate-level win.
- Gabe Yu came back from a 0-2 set deficit to win 3-2 at the #5 spot in a 1h 8 minute battle.
- The Mammoths won 27 out of 29 sets today, only losing sets in one match.

UP NEXT:
With today's victory, Amherst holds a 1-0 record (1-0 against NESCAC opponents) and are headed to Connecticut College on Saturday, November 22nd to compete against another NESCAC opponent, the Camels. After they face Connecticut College, they will return to action in January of 2026.
