Renna Chang won medalist honors at the Williams College Fall Invitational Sunday, following up a spectacular 4-under 67 in Saturday's first round with a 1-over 72 to earn the title over teammate and classmate
Emma Lindemoen, who placed second out of the 98 golfers who participated.
That 1-2 punch led the Mammoths to a 10-stroke victory over the closest team, runner-up NYU. Amherst finished with a two-day total of 19-over 587, while the Violets shot 597 collectively, or 29-over par, at the Taconic Golf Club.
Amherst shot a 2-over 286 collectively on Saturday's first round and followed that up with a 17-over 301 Sunday, when scores were much higher for all involved. Amherst's Sunday 301 was the second-best score of the day, trailing only Hamilton, which shot a 299. On Saturday, the Mammoths' collective round of 286 gave them a lead of 7 strokes over NYU and Wesleyan.Â
At the conclusion of Saturday's first round, the top three individuals all came from Amherst as Chang's 67 paced the field followed by Lindemoen and Ji An, who both shot 1-under 70s.Â
Chang had six birdies and no bogeys on Saturday (she did have one double bogey) and Sunday had five birdies en route to her 72, which was the best round of any of the 98 golfers over the final 18 holes. She finished with a 3-under 139. Lindemoen finished with a 75 Sunday and got into the clubhouse with a 145, six strokes back of Chang.Â
An shot a 77 Sunday to place 5th with a 147.
Annie Dai also shot a 77 Sunday to finish 43rd with a two-day total of 158.
Grace Zhan finished 45th with a 159, carding a 79 Saturday and an 80 in Sunday's final round.Â
