Mammoth Men Finish Strong at M.I.T. Invitational

9/28/2025 6:27:00 PM

CAMBRIDGE, MA - On Sunday, the last day of the MIT Invitational tournament for the Amherst men's tennis team, the Mammoths faced UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in Doubles and Little 3 rival, Wesleyan University Cardinals in Singles.

After a tough stretch of doubles matches against Tufts on Saturday night, Amherst came into the doubles matches against UC Santa Cruz looking to start their final day on a good note. After many early breaks on the top three courts, the Mammoths found momentum and won the first three matches quickly. On court 4, UC Santa Cruz was able to gain their only win against the Mammoths in a close 8-7 battle.

Right after doubles, Amherst stepped on the court to play Wesleyan. In the 2024-2025 season, Amherst defeated Wesleyan twice: in the regular season and the NESCAC tournament to lock in a spot in the NCAA team tournament. Amherst will face Wesleyan at least twice in the spring of 2026, as they will play against each other in South Carolina, as well as at Amherst. On Sunday, the Mammoths came up on top, winning on 4 out of 6 courts, wrapping up the weekend strongly.

RESULTS:
Doubles vs. UC Santa Cruz:

Singles vs. Wesleyan

UP NEXT:
The Mammoths are headed back to Boston next weekend to compete in the ITA Regional tournament hosted by Tufts University. Play will start on October 3rd and will go on until October 5th.
