CAMBRIDGE, MA - On Saturday, the Amherst College men's tennis team continued their first tournament of the 2025-2026 season, the MIT Invitational at the duPont Tennis Center on MIT's Campus. The Mammoths had a long day today, playing two singles matches and one doubles match. Amherst started their day off with singles matches against the hosts, MIT, winning 7 out of 8 matches. In the matches against MIT, half of the matches were decided in the third-set tiebreaker, with Amherst taking 3 out of 4 of them.

In the afternoon, the Mammoths faced NESCAC rival Bowdoin in singles. In the 2024-2025 season, Amherst and Bowdoin faced each other twice, Amherst winning in the regular season and Bowdoin besting the Mammoths in the NESCAC tournament semifinals. This time, Amherst came out on top, winning in 6 out of 8 singles matches. Against Bowdoin, four matches were decided in the third set, the Mammoths winning 3 out of 4 of them once again.

To finish the day off, Amherst faced another NESCAC rival, Tufts, in three doubles matches. In the 2024-2025 season, Tufts made it to the semifinals of the NCAA tournament, falling to the eventual winner, Denison. Tufts also had a doubles team reach the finals of the NCAA individual tournament, and a singles player reach the semifinals of the singles draw. The competition was fierce and the energy was high, but Tufts ended up winning on all three courts. Tufts was a good test for the Mammoths before the ITA Regional tournament next weekend.
