PAXTON, MA. -- After a 0-0 draw against rival Williams on Saturday, the Mammoths did not hold back in scoring tonight in their 5-0 win against Anna Maria College on their turf, Caparso Field. In Amherst's 3rd away game of the season, they improved their record to 3-0-2.
In this week's USC polls, the Mammoths were ranked at 16 in the DIII rankings before they head to Middlebury to face a NESCAC rival this Saturday.Â
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Â Amherst was able to control the pace, and held possession for a large proportion of the game. The Mammoths scored their 1st of 5 goals in the 10th minute. Senior Hadjiyiannis got possession of the ball on the right side of the box, crossing it to the middle where he found Krishnan. Krishnan controlled the ball with his head to Nuhu, who was able to tap it in and open the score for the Mammoths.Â
-Â Nuhu continued his incredible performance with his 2nd goal of the night in the 28th minute. Amherst was awarded a free kick 40 yards away on the right side of the field, and Street decided to take it. Instead of sending the ball long, he passed a short ball to Nuhu, who let it fly towards the goal from 35 yards away. With superb accuracy, his shot went right into the top left corner, past the goalie, and extending Amherst's lead to 2-0.
  -  The Mammoths extended their lead to 3-0 in the 34th minute with another beautiful goal. Opoku approached Anna Maria's half from the left, crossing it to Hadjiyiannis, who masterfully controlled the ball with his chest, finding his right foot and taking a shot to the far post, finding the net.Â
- To continue the Mammoths' amazing half, sophomore Lahlou was awarded a free kick 25 yards away in the 37th minute. Lahlou decided to take a shot on goal, rolling the ball on the ground, going under the defense's wall and past the goalie to the lower left corner. With Lahlou's stunning free kick, the Mammoths headed to the 2nd half with a 4-0 lead.Â
- Â In the 2nd half, Hadjiyiannis, who played a big part in Amherst's 1st goal and scoring the 3rd, got his 2nd goal for the night in the 64th minute. Duodu found possession on the right side of the field, and gained speed to create a chance for the Mammoths. Duodu sent a low and sharp cross to the box, finding Hadjiyiannis, who skillfully guided it to the back of the net.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- The Mammoths had 17 shots total to Anna Maria's 5. Amherst had 8 shots on goal, scoring from 5 of them. Anna Maria was not able to get a shot on goal. Amherst also led in corners 3-1.Â

The Mammoths are headed to Middlebury, VT on Saturday to face the No. 8 ranked Middlebury College in their 3rd NESCAC battle of the season. The game will take place on South Street Field, at 2 PM.Â
